Urban Agriculture Kingston

Promoting food sustainability in an urban centre

Sandy Bergís response

Thank you for your email. My Masterís degree and career background is in the field of biology and environmental science. This has given me the opportunity to work with Farley Mowat in establishing the Mowat Environmental Institute in Nova Scotia, and to do environmental field research in the U.S., Mexico, and Australia.

Clearly, agriculture, food security and healthy living are topics that are important round the globe and in our own community. Youíve asked me to document a detailed position on a policy matter that I think warrants careful study. As I hope you can appreciate, my preference is to dedicate my limited campaign time and energy to meeting the residents of Kingscourt-Strathcona and learning more about their concerns and issues.

Rest assured that on this issue and all other issues, my pledge as Councillor is to carefully listen to the residents of my district, to base my decisions on the best information available, and to make smart, affordable choices on behalf of all residents of Kingston Ė and our environment.

With my thanks and sincere respect for your groupís efforts on behalf of our community,

Sandy Berg, MSc.
